In my previous story (With My Own Eyes), I talked about some of the events that occurred when we lived in the apartments. If you haven't read that story, I suggest you read that one first and come back to this one since things may not fully make sense.

After living in those apartments for close to 7 years, my parents finally got approved for a home loan. We went to a few open houses, but it didn't take long until they had found the place they felt would be perfect to call 'home'. I remember how excited I was because for the first time in my life, I would finally get my own room. I was around 15 at the time, so having privacy was really important and I could also decorate my room exactly how I wanted.

When we started moving in our stuff, I remember we didn't have the power on yet but we took advantage of the sunlight coming in from the windows to stack up all of our belongings in our new house. One of the last trips we made, I went into my room and I remember feeling like I was being watched and it made me really uncomfortable. There was still light coming in from my window, but the sun had begun to set. I dropped my box in the corner of the room and I sprinted out the door. In my rush to leave, I actually forgot to lock our front door and it stayed open all night. Thankfully, our neighborhood was pretty quiet and safe at the time so no one disturbed our stuff.

We settled in pretty quickly. We didn't have a lot of stuff, and the school year had started winding down so we had a lot of time to get things in order. I do have to admit, being in a new place was scary, and since I had already felt a bit uneasy there, I had trouble sleeping. I told myself that it was normal, and that I just wasn't used to being in a quiet room all by myself. Things slowly started to feel a little better but it didn't take long until I started hearing things. I began to hear footsteps in our attic.

Before this, we had never had an attic, so I never thought about how spooky they can be. I clearly remember staying up well past midnight talking on the phone with my best friend when I started hearing heavy footsteps above me. Sometimes, they were so loud that she could hear them too, but nobody else in my house seemed to be bothered by them. I told myself it was probably an animal and left it at that. I didn't want my mind to wander and come up with some crazy story that would for sure keep me awake. After a while, I stopped noticing them, so I figured things were okay.

Flash forward a few years. I don't really know exactly how long it was before things got super weird, but after at least a year of us living in the house, things just escalated.

If you haven't noticed by my previous posts, I've always been a night owl. I love to be awake at night and seem to have the most energy when most normal humans are asleep. I frequently stayed up well past 2am watching TV in the living room with our dog. I did this so often that our dog would wait for me on the couch like clockwork. While I watched TV, I began noticing a shadow to my right out of the corner of my eye. Our living room and kitchen are connected so if you're sitting down, you're able to see part of hallway from the kitchen entrance. I've attempted to make a layout to give you a better understanding. By the way, there is no wall between the living room and kitchen, I've just put a dotted line to symbolize the separation between them.

Shitty Layout

As I sat there, I started noticing a shadow walking through the hallway. At first, I wasn't really scared because I wear glasses and figured it may have been a reflection of some sort. But then, I noticed it more and more often and our dog began to take notice too. He didn't growl or bark, he would just stare at that particular spot. After that is when I started feeling afraid.

One night, I noticed our dog staring really hard at that spot. He was on my lap but his eyes were glued to that area. I hadn't yet seen the shadow that night so I looked up to see if someone was there but after a few minutes, I got tired. I decided to ignore it and continued watching TV. About 5 minutes later, I see it. This time, I immediately reacted and turned my head to catch a full glimpse of it. It was darker than the light-less hallway, and it was also very tall. It had walked past the entrance of the kitchen and had stopped before it entered the living room. I swore that it was one of my brothers playing tricks on me. They're both over 6 feet tall so I didn't think it was impossible. I quickly got up and walked over and peeked my head out into the dark hallway but there was absolutely no one there. I immediately got goosebumps and decided to call it a night. I didn't want to be out there alone.

It took a few weeks until I decided to tell my parents what I had been seeing. I wasn't too scared by that point, I was more curious than anything. I really wanted to know why I was the only one seeing that tall, dark shadow. I'm not 100% sure how it happened, but eventually, it started appearing more frequently and everyone in my family saw it. It was always in the exact same spot. It was almost as if it was a movie playing the same scene over and over. I always saw him as a shadow, but my mom and dad began to notice that he started taking a more "normal" appearance. He began to appear wearing normal clothing, like jeans and t-shirts. We never saw his face though, in fact, one of the last times any of us saw him was also one of the most terrifying encounters.

At the time, I wasn't living at home anymore but one night, I got a call from my mom. We began talking about random things and she suddenly got really excited and said "Oh! I have something to tell you!" I honestly thought she was about to tell me some juicy gossip about someone we knew, so I never expected to hear what came out of her mouth. "So you know the shadow we see in the hall?" she asked. "Yeah" I said, "Well, it really scared the shit out of your dad the other day." Now I was really interested. "What happened?" I asked her. "He was sitting at the kitchen table when he saw someone walk past him but stopped before entering the living room. He said that he got up thinking it was one of your brothers, but as he reached the hall there was no one there. It took a few seconds for him to register but as he did, he realized something super odd. There had been nothing where the man's facial features should be. The man had no face." As she said that, I sat up in bed and I found myself getting goosebumps all over again. "Wait...what?" I said. "Yeah, your dad actually mentioned that he had never seem him so clearly before this. He even noticed that the man was wearing jeans and a striped shirt, but he really had no face." I didn't really know what to say. Part of me thought it was so freaking cool that my dad had come into contact with something but at the same time, this meant that what we had all been seeing was very real. When I saw my dad in person, I needed to hear the full story again. I told him to explain everything to me exactly as it happened. He described what type of shirt he was wearing and even how tall he was. He said that he'll never forget what it felt like to look up and see something walking past you with nothing where a face should be. It's pretty insane.

The crazier part is that my dad wasn't the only one who experienced something like that. About 2.5 years ago, my mom was at home with just my younger brother. They were getting ready to rent out their house so they were cleaning things out. As she was cleaning out the pantry in the hallway, someone pulled her hair. She at first thought it had been my brother since he was the only other person there with her, but he was in her bedroom all the way down the hall and to the right. She said that it didn't feel as though her hair had been caught in something but she looked around anyway. After investigating and finding nothing, there was no doubt in her mind that her hair had been pulled by something she couldn't see.

Over the years, we've had lots of crazier things happen and some of them we believe tie in with the shadow man. In order to avoid making this a really long read, I will be posting the stories in parts. I know it's not ideal, but there is just so many little stories that would end up making this a ridiculously long read. I hope you guys stick around to hear the rest of the events because I promise that it gets creepier!
